So many times I hear the question “do you really think that the planets affect us all the way down here on Earth?”. I always chuckle because I have been witnessing the planets and the attitudes and emotions of people since I was a young adult. I have taken a lot of ribbing and ridicule over the years and even downright aggression from people who do not understand or believe that would even be possible. For them it is an absolute impossibility. As for me though the answer is always the same: “YES I believe that the planets influence not only people but also animals, economic trends and weather”.
I see it every day with my dog, some days he wakes up ready to play and cannot wait for me to take the first deep inhalation as I awake. And sometimes I hold my breath just to have a few extra seconds before he is pouncing on me! Other days he is a sleepy head who just wants to snuggle and will dive under the covers if I give him the opportunity. I know his birth date and so I looked up the position of the Sun, Moon and other planets at his birth and now I can pretty much guess how he will behave given the position of the Moon on that day and the relationship it makes to his Moon and Sun.
So when people ask me I do my best to allay their doubt and skepticism with a discussion of electro-magnetic energy and our bodies bio-electrical system I explain the archetypes of astrology, psychology and mythological characters and about how we can use them as metaphors for the “cast of characters” depicted in the planets and the relationships they are making to our birth chart.
In an article by Jill Mattson we learn of one of the forefathers of astrology, Johannes Kepler:
In the 1600′s scientist Johannes Kepler sought evidence for harmony in the universe, as described by Pythagoras and others. Kepler found the movement of planets created a scale that was linked to simple, whole numeric ratios. In his book, Hermonices Mundi, the Five Books on Musical Harmony, Kepler calculated the angles of the planets (as measured from the sun) from their extreme positions in elliptical orbits during a twenty-four hour period. A system of simple intervals emerged, sixteen in all, (two exceptions) that are musical consonances or intervals with whole number ratios. He offers this as proof of harmonic laws in the cosmos.
If we take Kepler’s diatonic musical scale down enough octaves, these waves correspond to the brain wave patterns of alpha, beta, theta, and delta. Think about that. The movements of the planets create frequencies and our brain waves emulate that wave pattern. Isn’t that astounding?
Four hundred years later a pair of Americans detected a form of music from the heavens. “In 1993 Hulse and Taylor landed the Nobel Prize for discovering binary pulses – stars which send out electromagnetic waves in pulses. The most sensitive equipment located in one of the world’s highest places, high on a mountain top in Arecibo, Puerto Rico picks up evidence of their existence through radio waves”.
The Earth also emits low levels of electromagnetic energy from the spinning core of molten iron way below the surface. Energies from the sun distort the earth’s field with high-energy solar winds. The interaction of the earth’s magnetic field (from the molten iron) and the solar winds (from the sun) combines into electromagnetic energy, which is comprised of low frequencies. These frequencies also mingle with our own energies of body, mind and soul.
And you thought you were just moody…
I hope that it helps anyone who is sitting back and shaking their head and wondering how I could be so naive. Enjoy!
