In answer to the lovely Janine Miller who posted in Facebook the question “why are people acting so angry, is it having to do with the squares that astrologers are talking about?”
The square you refer to is the relationship between the planets Pluto (transformation) and Uranus (radical reformer) both are involved in the expression of Spiritual will. Their archetype or personality are very different in nature already so when they are in square there is a push-me-pull-you kind of exchange. These two planets are some of the Titans out there in the heavens and their cycles are very long term; Uranus goes a full 360 every 7 years and Pluto approximately 248 years. When they come into close proximity of one another things get tense (sometimes violent) and it lasts for a very long time. In the process of making their rounds about the Sun in our solar system they will at certain points come into relationship with each other in the form of aspects. The nature of the aspect determines whether the combined energies are agreeable or not.
Aspects are based on geometry and can show the nature of the relationship based on the harmony in the geometric pattern between them. I like to use the metaphor of sacred geometry, some aspects have an inherently divine quality (trines, bi-quintiles, quintiles, etc.) and others are more grating. Think of a square as a tug of war, except that instead of going back and forth the two teams are around the corner of a building from each other. There is no eye contact, no body language, just pulling against each other and when anyone gets the upper hand the energy surges in their direction.
Now add in the complexity of what sign those planets are in and you have a melting pot of archetypal energies. Uranus is in the sign of the warrior- Aries and Pluto is in the sign of the established elder (father, principle, CEO, president, dictator, etc.) So when they come into proximity there is a challenge of the young warrior to the eldest chieftain with the intent to change the village structures into a progressive new model.
The complete cycle of each planet will bring them into geometric proximity a multitude of times over the course of their travels. Too much to cover all aspects here but regarding the current squares it goes like this:
First the planets come into a conjunction (latin: marriage) when they are at the exact same degree in the same sign of the zodiac. Then they come into square which is a 90 degree aspect, then when they are 180 degrees apart they form an opposition, then they will form another square when they reach the opposite degree of the first square.
Uranus and Pluto were in conjunction during the 60’s and we can all remember major events that took place during that decade. Most significantly the assassination of two very Uranian people, JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the young warriors for peace who were demonstrating in the streets and in Universities. And then there were the civil rights movement activists. There were some gains that came from those difficult times but it’s almost as if the establishment flung the activists aside like mosquitoes. Now that the planets are at the 90 degree square, the mosquitoes are back and behaving more like bees and are getting under the skin of the Plutonian elders and unveiling the truths behind the corrupt systems that have been in place for a very long time. Thank goodness it will take another 30 years or so for these planets to come to opposition, there will be fireworks for sure with that aspect!
Uranus and Pluto in an individual (persons) chart can show a fiery temperament, intensity, violence and or accidents. Pluto is known for it’s urge for power and was also known as the God of the underworld. Uranus is ruled by the God of lightening its character is one of instability or frenetic behavior but also insight and intuitive awareness. Imagine the sizzle when electricity comes beaming down to the earth, everything that was once in the dark is suddenly illuminated in a blinding flash.
On the macro level these two planets are initiating great change on a global scale. This Global Transformation involves the two powerful planetary initiators (Pluto and Uranus) producing events that are beyond our control, creating radical revolutionary change, breakthroughs, breakdowns, and confrontation with the personal and collective shadow Have you noticed how many communities have been rising up against the established authority? That is because
Both initiators are also associated with tremendous innovations in technology, the empowerment of social movements, and profound spiritual awakening so we are also seeing those kinds of projects coming to light as well as a full on ascension of humanity and conscious co-creation has become a household concept even in places where that kind of thinking would have previously been called “woo-woo”.
To further the complexity of this long term agenda all planets experience retrograde cycles which means that the planet will appear to be moving backwards as other planets are moving more swiftly past in their own cycle around the Sun. So we have multiple opportunities for the square aspect as each planet moves forward, then retrograde then forward again. There were a total of times the square between Uranus and Pluto would be in affect at this juncture, the last will be mid April and last for approx 1-2 weeks when taking the shadow period into consideration.
And that is just two of the 12 planets that are beaming their energies to and through us!
There is another major pattern that has been going on and will continue to keep us all on edge for many years to come that involves at least 7 of the planets and the aspects are not necessarily on the “divine geometry” list. So each month as the inner planets which move quickly; the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars make their cycles they trigger all those other aspects so we are basically tumbling about in a wash cycle of energies trying to find balance and poise.
In the chart drawn up for the moment that Mercury went Stationary Direct (active for 3 months, until the next Mercury Retrograde), we have THREE septile-driven configurations involving Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. There are other non-rational configurations involving all the planets except Mars, and all 12 of the signs of the entire zodiac!
All giving us the opportunity to surrender and practice our unity consciousness and notice what part of the irrational behavior we are witnessing in others “out there’ is a reflection of some irrational energy that we are carrying “in here” in the way of undigested emotions?
